I created a set of digital instruments by manipulating samples of tumbling rocks, funeral marches and requiems, all in reverse. Additional rhythms were designed using heavily processed sounds of the heartbeat as heard through the stethoscope—sounds that were sampled from the medical gay porn footage used in the film. The collage of sound resulted in a ceremonial song for an exhumation. One with a touch of black magic and a queer undertone. I tried to create a simple and memorable theme that could be easily addapted throughout the series. I ended up using instrumentation that referenced big band jazz music. I thought that this would be appropriate sound since NYC, the setting of the series, has always been the epicenter of jazz.It felt great to work on a project that featured LGBTQ characters in leading roles without focusing on a coming-out story or a struggle with gender identity. On the journey, the film follows the Vikings’ presence throughout Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Iceland, extracting their memory from each site and coupling it with less dominant cultural memory.” Daniel McIntyreI wanted to play with the concept of time with this score; losing awareness of it. I wanted to pull from viking history, but place them as blips of memory, or false memory/legacy within the score.&nbsp; Melodic and instrumentation inspiration: The main melody takes inspiration from "I Dreamed a Dream.” Not long after the end of the Viking Age a system for writing down music was developed. I thought that it would be fitting to create a score that sounded “outer spacey” but represented life on earth.After falling into a Google wormhole, I climbed out with the following finds for inspiration. The Schumann Resonance Schumann resonances are global electromagnetic resonances, generated and excited by lightning discharges in the cavity formed by the Earth's surface and the ionosphere.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sn6m7Zz87L4 The earth emits a 7.83 Hz frequency and I've used a binaural beats version of sound to create a digital instrument. It sounds quite eerie and similar to a brass instrument. I attempted to recreate the sound by rented a saxaphone and playing it with overtones.
